A Private Club Rich in History and Tradition...celebrating 100 years
Established in 1924, the Pasadena Yacht & Country Club has long been one of the county's premier golf courses.
Walter Hagen and Jack Taylor formed ‘Pasadena on the Gulf’ in 1924 replacing the former Bear Creek golf course. Mr. Hagen was the 1st Club Professional at Pasadena and became the #1 golfer in the country during that time. Indeed, part of the ‘Match of the century’ between Walter Hagen and Bobby Jones was played at PYCC.
Through the years the St Petersburg Open and the Ladies Orange Blossom tours were played at the Club. Many of the great names in sport including Babe Ruth, Arnold Palmer, Babe Zaharias, Michael Jordan have played this course.
Dixie Hollins was a well known business leader and supporter of the school system, who owned the club through the 1940's. His son, Maurice, succeeded Mr. Hollins running the Club for many years following. US Steel owned and developed the community and Club in the 80’s. During that time, the clubhouse was moved to its present site, the course was reconfigured and a swimming pool and marina added.
PYCC was most recently purchased in October of 2016 by Dr. Jeffrey Paonessa, a local Oncologist and investor. Since that time, the Club and course have undergone many upgrades to bring the quality of our Member experience to contemporary luxury standards. The ongoing renovations will continue until we have reached the desired standards of excellence.
Please take a minute to watch the photographic tour of the history of Pasadena. If any Members have photos "from the good old days", whether it is yesterday or 1935, we would love to have a copy emailed to the Club at [email protected]. They will be added to our archive to use on the website and in future newsletters. Enjoy the tour. If you have any comments, please contact the Membership office or visit our Facebook page.
